What is ping?

Ping or latency is a command that serves to test the connectivity between devices on a network using the ICMP protocol. The word "ping" is an abbreviation of the term "Packet Internet Network Grouper".

What do the ping values ‚Äč‚Äčindicate?

If the ping is too high, it means that the equipment or address under test is not correctly connected to the network, or that the transmission of information within it is very slow, since the time taken for the entire process is high. On the other hand, when the ping is low, it is verified that the data transmission happens at a correct speed and that the equipment or address was connected properly. In this way, you can determine that availability is as expected.

What are the best ping rates?

  • Less than 30 ms: great rate;
  • 30 to 50 ms good rate, not harming the connection;
  • 50 to 100 ms: average PING rate;
  • 100 to 500 ms: rate considered slow, affecting the speed of access to web services;
  • Greater than 500 ms: rate considered very low and that indicates a delay in the requests.
